The Blue Lagoon, Abereiddi,

'The Blue Lagoon', Abereriddi, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK.

Limited Edition of 195

"The Blue Lagoon was orginally a vast slate quarry first worked back in the 1830's. Slate was initially loaded onto boats on the nearby beach but later a tramway was contructed to Porthgain where it was exported to ports around Britain. The quarry ceased activities in the early twentieth century, a narrow passage was blasted for the sea to flood the quarry in the 1920's and in 1937 a severe storm virtually destroyed seven workers cottages nearby. Recently 'The Blue Lagoon' has been utilized for the first ever UK Stage of the Red Bull World Cliff Diving Championship, with a 27 metre high platform temporarily contructed into the right hand cliff face. This image was taken during rough seas at twilight, with the narrow entrance of the Lagoon forcing the parallel ocean waves to refract and fan out in the circular shape of white foam apparent in the foreground."
