"Situated in the grounds of Llansteffan Mansion an old rotten tree stands defiant. The scene is overlooked by Llansteffan Castle which once stood as an act of Norman defiance against Llywelyn the Great. The impressive castle, dramatically sited on a hilltop high above the river Tywi was initially an Iron Age hill fort dating back to the 6th century B.C, its double ditch is still visible in places. The castle has passed through many hands through the ages from Welsh to Norman. The castle is currently maintained by CADW."
